I originally met Jeff Wittlinger through a family connection--my brother is his son-in-law. Soon after meeting, I learned about the incredible business he has built called Leader Consulting Services, Inc. (“LCSI” or “Leader”).
I’m excited to share Jeff’s story not only because he is family, but the business he has grown focuses on helping the environment and allows other businesses in the Buffalo area to operate.
Jeff and his team weed through all the difficult environmental testing, regulations and qualifications that most business owners could not do on their own and he creates a healthier environment and local economy while he’s at it.
Eventually we were able to work together and I wrote his personal insurance for both his home and auto, and then I put together his commercial insurance.
Meet Jeff Wittlinger
Jeffrey A. Wittlinger, P.E., BCEE went to the University of Buffalo where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Soon after graduating, he began working on his Masters in Civil Engineering while working full-time for an environmental engineering company.
After a few years of late nights and early mornings of studying and working, in 1988 he completed his Masters degree. He spent the next nine years working for a variety of environmental engineering companies and began to realize that he had the skills and experience to make his dream of owning his own environmental engineering firm possible. In 1995, he started Leader in the attic of his home.
“The first year in business, I didn’t collect a salary and I solely focused on putting in the work to build the business and our customer base,” Jeff recalls.
Since that year in his attic, Jeff and Leader have grown and been in business for 21 years. They focus on environmental health and safety and now employ about 10-15 employees with offices in Buffalo, New York and Charlottesville, Virginia.
Their team consists of professional engineers, geologists, OSHA safety specialist, environmental scientists, industrial hygienists and hazardous material transportation specialists.
It’s safe to say that Jeff’s decision to start Leader has paid off.
Giving businesses a better chance in Buffalo.
Leader focuses on helping business in the private sector navigate and comply with State, EPA and OSHA regulations; a lot of businesses would not be able to operate efficiently without the help of companies like Leader to guide them through the complexity of the regulatory world.
Most of the people on the Leader team have over 30 years of experience and they work together to meet their clients needs and expectations. “There’s always seems to be some tight deadline in the environmental and safety compliance business and we’ve always been able to prioritize our work to meet customer’s requirements,” Jeff shared.
Sharing his passions with youth and the industry
Not only has Jeff succeeded at building a great business in Buffalo, but he has also built a life that centers around family and ministry.
The Buffalo area holds a special place in his heart--he was born in Clarence and all his family lives here. Not to mention staying in Clarence worked out well for Jeff, he met his wife here! They both love living in Clarence with their eight children where they are connected to family and the local community.
Jeff also shares a unique gift he has shared with the local youth: his musical talents. “I teach praise and worship song writing. It’s typically a year long program where middle school and high school students work together to develop a praise and worship song, ultimately performed for the parents or recorded at a professional recording studio. It’s a lot of fun for the kids and they feel a sense of accomplishment when they listen to the final product.”
He’s also involved in other local and national organizations, including the New York State Commercial Real Estate Association,Air and Waste Management Society, and he is on the Board of Directors for Christian Central Academy and Manna Worldwide.
Building businesses and a healthy environment
Sharing the work and story of Jeff is just another reminder that when we put our heart and hard work into something we are passionate about, we can accomplish anything. It’s incredible to see a business that has grown because of the services they offer other businesses, while helping regulate and improve the environment.
I’m excited to work with more environmental engineering companies like Leader, because I believe the work they do makes a huge difference in our community and our world.
